NACA Holds Annual Meeting and Board of Directors Election

On Saturday, June 5, 2010, the National Association of Chinese Americans (“NACA”) held its annual meeting at Nori Nori Restaurant in Sandy Springs, Georgia to elect its Board of Directors for the 2010-2011 term. Approximately sixty NACA members attended the meeting and cast ballots for the directors. Steven Gu, James Hsiung, Christina Liao, Ethel Mar, Jian Ouyang, Danny Pian, Xianqin (Lisa) Wallace, Hong Wills, Andy Wong, Lani Wong and Olivia Wu were re-elected to serve on the NACA Board for another year. Nathan Kongthum, Celena Xu, Connie Yip and Elaine Yu were elected as new members to the Board. As Immediate Past President, Patrick Ko also continues to serve on the Board.

At the same meeting, NACA presented to each of the Past Presidents in attendance, including Lani Wong, Andy Wong, Wei Hu, Angela Chan, Ben Bao, Jeannie Lin and Al Wong, a framed reproduction of the State of Georgia Proclamation to The National Association of Chinese Americans recognizing thirty years of service previously presented by the Honorable Thurbert E. Baker, Attorney General. This proclamation also recognizes those NACA Past Presidents unable to attend the annual meeting including Henry Yu, Patrick Ko, Nancy Liu, Victor Eng, Lily D’Angelo, Lee Wan, James Wu, Winston Liu and Chris Yao in recognition of their contributions to NACA and the Atlanta community as prior Presidents of NACA.

We were also honored to have had Vicki Carew Johnson join us on behalf of Georgia Perimeter College (“GPC”), a NACA Community Partner, who spoke on NACA’s many partnerships with GPC supporting education in our communities such as NACA’s nursing scholarship as well as NACA’s support of GPC’s China Research Center.

After the annual meeting, the newly-elected Board appointed the following individuals to serve as officers of NACA for the 2010-2011 term: (i) Lani Wong – Chair; (ii) Christina Liao – President; (iii) Steven Gu and Lisa Wallace as Senior Vice Presidents; (iv) Hong Wills as Vice President and Secretary; (v) Ethel Mar as Vice President and Treasurer; and (vi) Olivia Wu and Danny Pian as Vice Presidents. The new Board and officers look forward to serving NACA and its members over the new term.
