NACA Group Mentoring Session on “Essentials & Skills required for Today’s Global Business”

NACA Mentoring Program held another group session for class of 2014 on November 8,2014 at the Training Center of Delta Cargo Office. The topic of this group session is ” Essentials & Skills required for Today’s Global Business”, which attracted many of the Program mentees, NACA members, young professionals and students to attend the meeting.

This group session has the following distinguished speakers:

  • Jenny Yao Harrison, Director of Coca-Cola
  • Lisa Wallace, Director of Delta Air Lines
  • Ila Gandhi, Client Strategy Consultant
  • Li Zheng, President of Techtop Industries

Jenny Yao Harrison is a Global Program Director for Liquid Food at The Coca-Cola Company. She leads a transformational program to enable the aggressive portfolio growth of juice, tea, coffee and dairy-based products reliant on an agricultural supply chain. Xianqin “Lisa” Wallace is the Director of Cargo Revenue Management and Alliances. In this role, she is responsible for improving Delta Cargo’s overall yield performance and managing the relationships with our joint venture partners. As an organization development consultant and global strategist, Ila brings over 25 years of corporate and consulting experience in change leadership, organizational development, talent management, diversity and inclusion, executive coaching and cultural integration. Li Zheng is the founder and president of Techtop Industries Inc, a manufacturing and distribution company for electric motors and related power transmission products.

NACA Board Member, Mr. Henry Yu, thanked the distinguished guests and visitors, as well as Coca-Cola, sponsor of this Program, for their participation and support to NACA’s Mentoring Program. President of Techtop Industries, Inc., Dr. Li Zheng, moderated the group discussion.

To succeed in today’s global business, one must show expected competence in cross-cultural awareness and practice. It is important that they adjust their decision-making, management practice and communication skills to accommodate the differences in the values of a multicultural business environment. This group session focused on these questions. The speakers shared their valuable career experiences with the mentees. Key issues that mentees need to be familiar with include some of the following:

  • Cultural competence helps interact effectively with people at work place.
  • Be comfortable with who you are in a multicultural environment.
  • Learn to manage the expectation of your supervisor.
  • You add value to your organization when you effectively communicate disagreement to your supervisor.
  • Being curious is the best motive to get involved.
  • Break you goal into small tasks.
  • Do not be afraid to live out of your comfort zone.

After the panel discussion, the group spent time getting to know one another and our speakers shared first hand experiences on career issues, success and failure stories, etc.

全美华人协会举办“良师指导”项目集体辅导会议——如何在全球化商务环境中取得成功

2014年11月8日上午,秋阳明媚,全美华人协会(NACA)“良师指导”项目再次举办了集体辅导会议。Delta公司货运部培训中心为这次会议提供了宽敞明亮的场地。这次集体辅导的主题是“全球化商务的必备能力要素”,吸引了众多该项目学员、NACA会员、职业人士和学生参加会议。

现今经济全球化时代,国际商务活动在全球文化环境中展开,使得我们每天都要接触新的文化和不同的文化价值观。这就要求每一位职场人士随时调整自身的决策因素、管理行为和交际方式,以适应国际商务环境中多元文化价值观的差异。年轻的职场人如何在这样的环境下取得成功?有哪些过来人的经验值得借鉴?这次集体辅导专门针对这些大家关心的问题展开了讨论。

这次会议邀请到的演讲嘉宾有:可口可乐公司总监Jenny Yao Harrison女士,Delta航空公司总监廖献芹女士,资深客户战略顾问Ila Gandhi女士,Fifth-Third银行执行总监余振鸿先生。会议由Techtop公司总裁郑力博士主持。

余振鸿先生首先感谢了各位嘉宾和来宾,以及赞助方可口可乐公司,全美华人协会“良师指导”项目开展以来取得的成功离不开大家的支持。接下来,在嘉宾们各自简单自我介绍之后,郑力博士就把会议引向了热烈的互动问答阶段。来宾们都非常关心如何适应国际化商务环境,并在其中脱颖而出这个问题。Ila Gandhi女士指出,首先要认识到不同的文化价值观之间存在差异,然后才能有意识地去适应。廖献芹女士强调要主动出击,参与公司组织里的各种活动,结识多方人士。Jenny Yao Harrison女士结合自身经验,谈起了对她的职业生涯有帮助的人和事。随后,主持人郑力博士十分犀利地问嘉宾们在职场上有没有犯过错误,得到过什么样的经验教训。嘉宾们非常坦诚地和大家分享了他们的故事,例如要注意肢体语言等细节,如何管理领导的期望值,在职场十字路口该如何抉择,等等。

会议互动十分热烈。来宾们充分利用这次良机,提出一个又一个问题。嘉宾们真诚解答,把宝贵的经验凝成点拨的话语。讨论结束后,Delta公司为大家提供了丰盛的午餐,与会者们继续交流心得,结识新朋,问候旧友。
