08-04-2017: NACA and Hong Kong Association of Atlanta jointly hosted lunch at City Club of Buckhead honoring the visit of John Slosar, Executive Chairman, Swire Pacific Ltd. The theme is “A Business Discussion on Hong Kong & China”. Slosar visited Atlanta for the first time staying 2 nights in addition to visiting NYC and Chicago. Among local VIPs receiving Slosar are Ceasar Mitchell- Atlanta City Council President, John Rice – Vice Chairman of GE, Mary Waters – Deputy Commissioner of Georgia Dept of Economic Development, Jorge Fernandez – VP of Metro Atlanta Chamber and Beatriz Perez – SVP of Community Affairs of Coca-Cola Company. NACA attendees include Chair Lani Wong and husband Dr. Wong, President Ric Hubler, Board members Charlene Fang, Jenny Tang, Carol Ng, Shandry Law, Meng Han, Nellie Li, Senior Advisors Jung Mar and Henry Yu, and Executive Director Elaine Yu. From HKAA are President Henry Yu, Executive Director Gen Hanratty, and HKAA Board members Li Wong, Ying Zhu, Charlene Fang, Floria Whitcomb and Shandry Law.
Prior to Keynote speech by Slosar, there was a Panel discussion including speakers Karen Loch, President of World Trade Center of Atlanta, Jung Mar and Henry Yu. Topics of discussion from keynote and panel included the HK advantage, the “Why HK”, HK’s relations with HK, and more importantly HK’s future taking in the consideration of China’s One Belt One Road Initative, as well as HK/China’s push to grow the Guangdong-HK-Macau Bay area, which will be a driver of growth for both HK and CHina the next 20 plus years. HK is going through an interesting period. While local citizsens demand for social freedom, better economic future, and less government intervenion, the HK business community and government are looking for ways to position HK well to meet OBOR opportunities and challenges, as well as to focus on the future growth of e-Commerce, FinTech, MedTech, Innovation and IT.
