Clyde C. Tuggle
Senior Vice President, The Coca-Cola Company

Clyde C. Tuggle is senior vice president, Global Public Affairs and Communications, TheCoca-Cola Company.

 

Mr. Tuggle joined the Company in January 1989 in the Corporate Issues Communications department. In June 1992, he was named Executive Assistant to Roberto C. Goizueta, then Chairman and CEO of the Company, where he managed external affairs and communications for the Office of the Chairman.

 

In 1998, he transferred to the Company's Central European Division office in Vienna where he held a variety of positions, including Director of Operations Development, Deputy to the Division President, and Region Manager for Austria.

 

In January 2000, Mr. Tuggle returned to Atlanta as Executive Assistant to Chairman and Chief Executive officer Doug Daft and was named Vice President.

 

In February 2003, he was elected a Senior Vice President and named Director of Worldwide Public Affairs and Communications, and named to the Company's Executive Committee. In 2005, he became President of the Russia, Ukraine & Belarus Business Unit. In September 2008, Mr. Tuggle was named Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Productivity. In May 2009, he was named Senior Vice President, Global Public Affairs and Communications, a position reporting directly to the Chairman and CEO of The Coca-ColaCompany.

 

Mr. Tuggle holds a bachelor's degree in German Studies and Economics from Hamilton College in New York and a Master of Divinity from Yale University. He studied at the Ludwig-Maximillian Universität in Munich, Germany, and completed The Executive Program at the University of Virginia's Darden Business School.

 

Mr. Tuggle is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Agnes Scott College and a trustee of the Georgia Research Alliance. He serves on the Boards of Directors of the Center for Addiction and Substance Abuse, the US Russia Business Council and the World Affairs Council of Atlanta. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Goizueta Business School Advisory Board and the Yale University International Advisory Board.

Bilal Kaafarani
Senior Vice President, The Coca-Cola Company

In his current role, Bilal is an officer of The Coca-Cola Company and senior innovation executive, heading up global research, product development, technical consumer insights, packaging, and regulatory and scientific affairs with key centers in the United States, Brazil, China, and Belgium.

He is focused on building Coca-Cola's R&D capability, capacity, and facility as the world's foremost "total beverage company." Under his leadership, the company has significantly expanded and optimized R&D beyond the sparkling category and established product innovation incubators globally. He also brought about partnerships that have resulted in highly successful launches like ready-to-drink coffee (Illy/Coca-Cola) and product innovations for both Glaceau's international expansion and Simply Orange's new product offerings. For the first time, The Coca-Cola Company was listed in Business Week's 2009 "Top 25 Companies for Innovation". Bilal was also honored by Business Week as one of the world's "Top 25 Masters of Innovation."

Prior to joining The Coca-Cola Company, Bilal held leadership roles with PepsiCo International, where he rose to the position of VP of R&D and Chief Technology Officer for Frito-Lay UK, Europe, and Middle East & Africa operations, as well as Tropicana, Proctor & Gamble and Kraft. There he developed the acclaimed fat free technology that resulted in the highly successful "Kraft Free" products. Bilal holds patents for numerous breakthrough technologies in the food sector.

Ken Cornelius
President and CEO, Siemens One

Ken Cornelius is President and CEO of Siemens One.

In his role as head of Siemens One, Ken helps Siemens develop business opportunities that involve multiple Siemens business units focused in the key areas of Energy, Industry and Healthcare. By leveraging the breadth of Siemens portfolio of innovations and technologies, the Siemens One team provides customers with tailored solutions that improve their performance and bolster their competitive position in the marketplace.

Siemens One clients represent a broad mix of industry sectors including healthcare, energy, industry and infrastructure as well as U.S. Federal Government initiatives.

Cornelius serves on the board of directors with the Metro-Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. As Chairman of the Metro Atlanta Global Commerce Council, Ken works to increase the number of international companies locating to the metro Atlanta area to increase job growth and investments. Cornelius was appointed by Governor Sonny Purdue to the Board of Governors of the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. Ken began his Siemens career as a sales representative in 1977 and has held numerous sales, marketing and senior management positions; most recently Vice President of Sales for Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. He was named to his current position in 2001.

As the Siemens City Ambassador for Atlanta representing Siemens, he regularly meets with leaders in the civic, governmental and non-profit sectors and has been featured in USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, CNBC’s Morning Call, Bloomberg Radio and Time Magazine. He and his wife have two daughters and reside in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Ed Cunningham
Managing Partner, U.S. Renewable Energy Group

Ed Cunningham serves and manages US Renewable Energy Group’s $1.3 billion renewable energy portfolio, which promotes marketplace integration of renewable and environmentally sound energy technologies.

Prior to USREG, Mr. Cunningham served as the CEO and Managing Director, Asia, for AEG. Under his guidance, AEG’s operations in the Asian region grew from a handful of employees to more than 5,000 employees in eleven Asian cities with real estate, infrastructure and development projects exceeding $1.8 billion. Prior to AEG, Cunningham served as the Asia CEO for Clear Channel Communications (Entertainment Division), a Fortune 500 Company. Cunningham worked with government leaders and companies to create China’s earliest joint ventures in the politically sensitive cultural, sports, entertainment, and media industries. Prior to Clear Channel, Cunningham was a partner and Director for the Global Media, Sports and Entertainment Practice at the Coudert Brothers Law Firm. Cunningham has visited and evaluated more than 100 Asian cities, and he has completed numerous landmark agreements in Asia.

Cunningham has served the United States throughout his career including serving as a member of President Barack Obama’s National Finance Committee, the Presidential Advisory Committee (Technology), the U.S. Foreign Affairs Budget Project Advisory Committee, the American Academy of Diplomacy (Co-Director of International Negotiations Program), the Democratic National Committee National Advisory Committee, a U.S. Senate Candidate and a City Councilman. Cunningham has far-reaching experience as a public speaker including serving as the keynote speaker for the Conference Board’s Global Conference, Beijing Olympic Games Strategic Initiatives Conference, China University Games Global Announcement Ceremony and serving on the Leadership Panel for the PricewaterhouseCoopers New Frontiers in Media Conference. Cunningham has been active in many charitable initiatives, including the China Earthquake Tent Relief Project to supply shelter for the millions of earthquake victims in China’s Sichuan Province. Cunningham speaks some Chinese and Vietnamese. He has also contributed to various White Paper publications, authored comprehensive Asian pandemic response plans and is an associate member of the American Foreign Services Association.

Cunningham grew up in a small West Texas town with a population of less than 1,000 people. Through his hard work and dedication, he was able to earn a spot on the University of Texas Football team where he eventually earned All-American honors and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player. In addition, he received one of the University’s highest honors, the D. Harold Byrd Leadership Award. Prior to law school, Cunningham had brief stints in the NFL with the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns where he had the opportunity to learn from two of football’s greatest coaches, Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick.

Henry Yu

Henry Yu is currently Director of Transaction Banking Sales at Standard Chartered Bank, Shanghai, and is the Bank’s Champion on RMB Cross Border Trade Settlement initiative. He joined Standard Chartered Bank China in January of 2008 having spent time managing commercial bank relationships and Heading up Business Development in East China.

Prior to January of 2008, Henry was Managing Director of Global Trade Solutions of SunTrust Bank of Atlanta, Georgia. While at SunTrust, Henry also served as Compliance Task Force member of the Corporate and Investment Banking Group, member of the Diversity Council, and Head of Asian Bankers Initiatives. During his 8 years with SunTrust, Henry was involved in global bank relationship management, multinational client relationship management, trade finance, CDO/CLO distribution, capital markets and wealth management. Henry received certification in Series 7, 62 and insurance from 2003-2007. Henry started his banking career in 1981 with Bank of America in HK. His past affiliation included senior management position at Comerica Bank and National City Bank.

Henry has been an avid promoter of China/U.S. relations in the United States since 1990s. He has been a strong supporter of the National Association of Chinese Americans for about 10 years in Atlanta, having served on its Board for 7 years, of which 3.5 years as President. He currently serves as Chair of NACA’s Advisory Board. In addition to lecturing at the Suzhou Institute of the Sichuan University, Henry is a regular presenter/speaker to MBA/BBA students from Georgia colleges during their visits to China.

Henry is no stranger to the Atlanta community having been affiliated and served on various groups such as Global Commerce of Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Georgia China Alliance, Asian Heritage Foundation, Lions Club of Atlanta, Kwong Tung Association of Atlanta, Chinese Community Center, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Perimeter College, and Japan America Society of Atlanta.

Henry is married to Elaine who currently serves on NACA Board. The Yu’s have 2 daughters Amanda and Vivian.

Erin Ennis
Vice President, US-China Business Council (USCBC)

Erin Ennis has served as vice president for the USCBC since May 2005. She directs the council’s government affairs and advocacy work for member companies and oversees its Business Advisory Services. Founded in 1973, the USCBC provides extensive China-focused information, advisory and advocacy services, along with events, to more than 250 U.S. corporations operating in the United States and throughout Asia.

Prior to joining the USCBC, Ennis worked at Kissinger McLarty Associates, the international consulting firm created by former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former White House Chief of Staff Thomas “Mack” McLarty. At Kissinger McLarty, Ennis was responsible for implementing strategies for international business clients on proprietary trade matters, primarily in Vietnam and Japan.

Before entering the private sector, Ennis worked in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative from 1996 to 2000, first with congressional affairs on Asia issues, including annual approvals of China’s most-favored nation status and the 1997 push to renew presidential “fast-track” negotiating authority. Later she was assistant to Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Richard Fisher, who led U.S. trade negotiations, enforcement and intellectual property rights with Asia and the Americas. From 1992 to 1996, Ennis was a legislative aide to former U.S. Sen. John Breaux, working on international trade and commerce.

Gregory A. Fisher

Mr. Fisher of Atlanta has been in the securities business for over 20 years and since 2005 has worked for Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. as managing director of investments. Prior to joining Oppenheimer, he worked at Bear Stearns & Co., as a senior managing director in charge of sales and trading where he covered approximately 14 countries and maintained in custody a total of $2.3 billion in client assets. He was instrumental in the creation of a new Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. branch, Atlanta International. Mr. Fisher grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, with a Bachelor of Arts in history. Mr. Fisher and his wife, Christi, are the parents of two children, Helena, and Nicholai, who is a cadet at Riverside.

Jeffrey M. Smith

Jeffrey Smith is a Principal Shareholder in Greenberg Traurig, LLP, in the Atlanta office. His practice primarily involves securities law, trademarks and entertainment.

Jeffrey Smith is pro bono Legal Counsel to the National Association of Chinese Americans. He was on the Board of Directors for the United States Fund for UNICEF. He was the pro bono general counsel for the Atlanta Community Food Bank for 20 years and was a member of its Board of Directors.

Dr. Denis F. Simon

Dr. Denis F. Simon is Professor from Penn State School of International Affairs.

Professor Denis Simon’s scholarship focuses on international and comparative business strategy, technological innovation, and global management of technology, with special reference to China and the Pacific Rim. He has established deep government, business and academic relationships in China and is well-known for both his scholarly and entrepreneurial accomplishments. Prior to joining the Penn State School of International Affairs, Professor Simon served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at SUNY’s Levin Graduate Institute of International Relations and Commerce in Manhattan. Previously, he was dean of the Lally School of Management and Technology of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a member of the faculties of the Fletcher School at Tufts University and the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T.

A successful businessman who has provided leadership and development direction to national and international entities, Professor Simon is a past president of the Monitor Group (China) Ltd. in Beijing and the founder and former president of China Consulting Association in Boston. He also has served as managing director of the Business Strategy and Innovation Center for Scient International in Singapore, and as director of the China Strategy Group and general manager for Anderson Consulting in Beijing. A frequent advisor to global corporations and the U.S. government, Professor Simon is a member of the China Project Team at the Council on Competitiveness; the Advisory Committee on United States Science and Technology Cooperation with China of the National Science Foundation; and the Board of Directors of the United States-Israel Science and Technology Foundation. He also has worked closely on several projects with the National Academy of Sciences and on the National Innovation Initiative for the Council on Competitiveness.

His teaching interests include international business strategy and operations, global management of technology, international technology transfer, comparative S&T policy, East Asian government-business relations, and contemporary Chinese political economy.

Gary Locke
United States Secretary of U.S. Depart of Commerce

Gary Locke was appointed by President Obama as the 36th Secretary of Commerce and sworn into office on March 26, 2009. At the Department of Commerce, Locke is charged with helping implement President Obama's ambitious agenda to turn around the economy and put people back to work.

As the first Chinese-American to hold this post in a president's cabinet, Locke has a distinctly American story. His grandfather emigrated from China to Washington state, initially finding employment as a servant, working in exchange for English lessons. Locke's father, also born in China, was a small business owner, operating a grocery store where Locke worked while receiving his education from Seattle's public school system. His strong work ethic and determination eventually took him to the highest office in the state of Washington.

Prior to his appointment, Locke helped U.S. companies break into international markets as a partner in the Seattle office of the international law firm, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP. There, he co-chaired the firm's China practice and was active in its governmental relations practice.

As the popular two-term governor of Washington, the nation’s most trade-dependent state, Locke broke down trade barriers around the world to advance American products. He helped open doors for Washington State businesses by leading 10 productive trade missions to Asia, Mexico and Europe, significantly expanding the sale of Washington products and services. He also successfully strengthened economic ties between China and Washington State. His visits are credited with introducing Washington companies to China and helping more than double the state's exports to China to over $5 billion per year.

As part of his considerable trade and economic development efforts, Locke launched Washington’s Competitiveness Council with business, labor and civic leaders working together to effectively position Washington State for success at home and around the world. During the eight years of the Locke Administration, the state gained 280,000 jobs.

Locke earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Yale University and a law degree from Boston University. He is married to Mona Lee Locke. They have three children: Emily, Dylan and Madeline.

Zhang Yesui

Zhang Yesui is a native of Tianmen City, Hubei Province. He was born in 1953, and graduated from the Beijing Foreign Studies University. He studied at the London School of Economics from 1975 to 1976 and served as vice-minister of Foreign Affairs from 2003 to 2008. Zeguang Zheng

Christian Murck
President, American Chamber of Commerce, China

Christian Murck is the incoming President, American Chamber of Commerce in China, based in Beijing, where he has lived since 1996. He is also an independent director of JP Morgan Chase Bank (China) Co. Ltd.

Mr. Murck was previously CEO, Asia of APCO Worldwide, a public affairs consulting firm. At APCO his client work focused on financial services, intellectual property issues, and government relations. Prior to joining APCO, he was Managing Director and Senior Country Officer in China of The Chase Manhattan Bank. He was a director of Bank of Shanghai in 2006-08 and served two terms as Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in China in 2002 and 2003.

Mr. Murck previously lived in Taipei, where he ran Chase and its predecessor institutions' Taiwan operations from 1991 to 1996. He was Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei for 1995 and 1996.

Mr. Murck graduated from Yale University and then taught for two years at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He subsequently received a doctorate in East Asian Studies at Princeton, and was a Mellon Fellow at Columbia University before becoming a banker. During his doctoral research, he spent two years as a Research Fellow at the University of Kyoto in Japan. He is a trustee and former President of the Board of Trustees of the Yale-China Association.

John Rice

John G. Rice is vice chairman of GE and president & CEO of GE Technology Infrastructure. This business segment includes Healthcare, Aviation, Transportation and Enterprise Solutions. Prior to his current position, Rice served as vice chairman of GE and president & CEO of GE Infrastructure.

Rice began his General Electric career in 1978 as a member of the Financial Management Program, moving to the GE Corporate Audit Staff in 1981. In 1984 he joined GE Appliances, having various assignments in operations and consumer service.

In 1992 Rice was named president and CEO of GE's Canadian appliance affiliate in Toronto, Canada. He assumed leadership of the GE Corporate Audit Staff in 1994, and a year later was appointed president of GE Plastics Asia/Pacific business headquarters in Singapore. Rice was appointed president and CEO, GE Transportation Systems in Erie, Pennsylvania, in September 1997.

Rice was named president and CEO of GE Energy, a leading supplier of power generation technology, energy services, and energy management systems in November of 2000 through June of 2005. He was named vice chairman of GE and president & CEO of GE Industrial in 2005 and was named vice chairman of GE and president & CEO of GE Infrastructure in 2006.

Rice earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, and currently serves on the Board of Trustees there. Rice is also a trustee of various other institutions including Emory University and the Walker School, and is on the International Advisory Board of King Fahd University in Saudi Arabia. In addition, he is past chairman of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife have four sons.

Mayor Kasim Reed was inaugurated as the City of Atlanta’s 59th Mayor on January 4, 2010. Since taking office, Mayor Reed has worked to improve public safety, create new opportunities for the City’s youth, restore fiscal stability to the City and provide faster and more efficient customer service to residents.

Prior to his election, Mayor Reed established a track record of leadership during his 11 years as a member of the Georgia General Assembly. He was first elected in 1998 as a State Representative and served two terms. From 2002-2009, he served in the Georgia State Senate, where he was Vice Chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus.

As an undergraduate member of Howard University's Board of Trustees, he created a fundraising program that has contributed more than $10 million to the school’s endowment since its inception. Mayor Reed was appointed as Howard University's youngest General Trustee in June 2002 and remains a member of the Board of Trustees.

Mayor Reed is Chair of the Transportation and Communications Committee of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Chair of the Regional Transit Committee of the Atlanta Regional Commission. Bingjing Xu
President of the China-Europe Association for Technical & Economic Cooperation

Mr. Xu serves as President of the China-Europe Association for Technical & Economic Cooperation, a division of the China Ministry of Commerce. Mr. Xu worked formerly as the Assistant Minister of China Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (now known as the China Ministry of Commerce) and also served as the Director of the State Council for Import and Export of Electromechanical Products. As the Assistant Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as a member of the party leadership group, he has engaged in industrial administration and diplomatic work since 1998. Upon being the principal official of the Ministry of Machinery, the National Planning Committee, and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Mr. Xu holds responsibilities primarily in macroeconomic administration.

Mr. Xu is currently the Honorary President of the China Automovile Dealers Association and the Vice-President of the China Society for World Trade Organization Studies and a Senior Engineer. Since 1988, he has served as the Deputy Director of China’s GAAT and WTO Negotiation Delegation. John Simon

Experience

John leads the Mergers & Acquisitions -Tax group’s renewable energy practice, which helps clients structure investments in renewable energy projects, acquire ownership of renewable energy companies, and obtain and monetize energy tax incentives. He lead LiteON group to enter renewable energy industry, including the establishment of LiteON Green Tech; investment in Auria Solar, the leading manufacturer of tandem thin film solar modules; investment in Payom AG, a listed EPC company in Germany. Dr. Chuang is a board member of Auria solar and the vice chairman of Payom. LiteON Green Tech is the leading EPC company in Taiwan who built many classic projects in the industry with geographic span covering Europe, China, Taiwan, and Japan. Thin film solar integrated greenhouse is one of the innovations of LiteON Green Tech. Currently, LiteON Green Tech is aggressively searching for a location to establish its US head quarters.

John R. McIntyre
Executive Director of the Georgia Tech Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER)

Dr. John R. McIntyre has been Executive Director of the Georgia Tech Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), a national center of excellence, since 1993 and a professor of international business management and international relations with joint appointments in the College of Management and the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia. His more recent publications include Business and Management Education in China: T ransition, Pedagogy and Training (World Scientific Publishing Co. Ltd., Singapore and London 2005), Globalization of Chinese Enterprises (Palgrave-McMillan, 2008), China Rules: Globalization and Political Transformations (Palgrave-McMillan 2009), and Multinational Enterprises and the Challenges of Sustainable Development (E Elgar Publishing Ltd., 2009). He is an elected member of the Board of Advisors, World Trade Center, Atlanta, Georgia. He is a consultant to international companies focusing on trade and investment strategies. Recipient of the 2009 Georgia Governor’s Award for Best International Education Program; of the National Order of Merit (France), 2009.

Aurelien Maurice
Project Director, Alstom Power

Aurelien is currently leading a 300 M$ investment for the implementation of a new factory in Chattanooga-Tennessee. Officially inaugurated in June 2010, the manufacturing & engineering site has the capacity to manufacture the world’s largest turbines.

Aurelien joined Alstom in 2003, and since then has held a variety of roles within the energy sector. Following a first assignment in the hydro electrical business in Zambia, he was named Executive Assistant to Alstom Power President. Based at Alstom’s Power Headquarters in Baden-Switzerland, Aurelien took the lead of the 3-year strategic and budget plans. In 2007, Aurelien joined the environmental branch of Alstom, successfully managing large industrial projects in Europe. Since 2009, Aurelien has been based in the United States.

Aurelien holds a Msc in Management from HEC Paris and a LLM from Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne University.
