Background: Exports account for 13 % of US GDP, adding nearly 1.5% to GDP growth in 2009. Stronger demand and depreciation of the dollar contribute to the strong performance. The National Export Initiative (NIE) seeks to improve conditions impacting the private sector’s export competitiveness,” with the aims of doubling U.S. exports in five years and assisting smaller firms with financing and advocacy.
